The drawings series “Fatal Rays” (2019-2021) is dedicated to the Soviet Modernism architecture in Ukraine:

.

"We see only an old concrete, on which one is falling the oblique fateful ray of the post-Soviet sun... The heritage, it's frozen in forgotten history. It’s predetermined by fate, the mysteriously incomprehensible architecture of modernism. It's tragic by itself, being a fatal consequence of the complete failure of the existing system”.

.

On the weathered surfaces of these buildings fall slanting, cold rays — the fatal rays of the post- Soviet sun. They illuminate not only the texture of concrete but also the paradox of time: grand constructions once envisioned as symbols of the future now embody neglect, decay, and the rupture between dream and reality.

.

Each work is a reflection on the fragility of ideology, on the imprints of power frozen in material, on how light, passing through the cracks of history, reveals what was meant to be eternal — but became forgotten. A petrified reminder of the attempts to change the world — and of the consequences that have turned into concrete ruins of memory.
